Rhinebeck

You know what’s great? When your friend’s godmother has a picturesque farm in Rhinebeck, New York and she invites you to spend time there on a perfect Fall weekend…

Did I mention there were miniature horses?

And Bassett hounds?

And chickens that gave us eggs for breakfast the next morning?

It was such a treat, made me wish for my very own country home…..I have to start saving my pennies

Merci Beaucoup!

Dear M,

Thank you for the warm wishes and the great shout out!

It was a lovely day! I spent the majority of it replying to Facebook posts (as you so astutely pointed out). Then Mr. V and I went and had dinner at Balthazar.  It’s a standard spot for this city but the food never fails – I really had a hankering for an old Paris vibe…there is something so cozy about a tarnished mirror, wine bottles and a bustling cafe.

After eating my fill of duck confit and onion tarts, guess who sat down next to me?!  Happy Birthday me!

Celebrate Brooklyn!

Hi All,

Lots of music news this weekend…I’m SO anxious to hear about your Bonnaroo trip!!  I’m making a promise to myself not to miss it ever again!

Luckily this weekend we were able to see some live music too…and for free! (A lot like Bonnaroo). Andrew Bird opened the Celebrate Brooklyn summer festival this year.  He will forever remind me of that epic roadtrip we took from San Francisco to Portland a few years back.

C and our merry gang were lucky enough to run into an old friend of their’s from Skidmore who let us cut the line.  We weren’t too proud of the cut – except for when we realized the line was over a mile long and they were turning people away.  We were there two hours early to boot!  We scored a great spot on the lawn and snacked on foods from BKLYN Larder and The Farm on Adderly and enjoyed an early summer night.  I can’t wait to enjoy other outdoor shows this year!

In the mean time, here’s a look at Andrew Bird performing our favorite song, “Fake Palindromes” at Bonnaroo 2006…if you look to the right, I think you can see us! ;)

A lot of moxie

Hey Jess,

Looking at your picture got me thinking about one of my favorite places to go in the Summer. Moxie’s, an ice cream shop near Chris’s parent’s house in upstate New York.

First we laze by the pool…

Then, we hop in the car, put all the windows down and take a country drive. It makes me feel like I’m a kid again – sunburnt, smelling of chlorine and eating as much ice cream as I want…

They have a flavor called Blue Moon that I love so very much. I can’t really describe the taste…maybe it’s vanilla? A little bit of berry? Anyways, the color and taste are really refreshing

Ice Cream, Ice Cream, Ice Cream!

I treated myself to a Van Leeuwen ice cream yesterday.  Couldn’t help it…

Dumont

It seems you forgot the most important part of Friday night! Guess we’re not that interesting ;)

We celebrated a trifecta of birthdays on Friday night at Dumont in Williamsburg. Incidentally, its next door to my favorite tattoo spot in Brooklyn, Saved.

We ate a lovely Fritto Misto and Artichoke salad to start. I had the steak with the most ridiculous potato gratin and Mr. Vanderberg had their famous burger. What did you guys eat again?

Do you know they have seating in their tree house too? This place is enormous!

May babies!

Happy Birthday Mr. V! Along with you I had two dear friends celebrating their birthdays this month.

I joined my friend Trina as she celebrated her birthday at ABC kitchen.

Restaurants don’t get more beautiful than this. They used salvaged wood for the flooring, beams and table tops making everything feel really white washed and clean. The lighting is perfection, it’s cozy yet sophisticated, and a little bit sexy too. The food was really delicious but the service was not so delicious, bummer.

We shared a few dishes, the most notable being the suckling pig, which was beyond amazing. We finished the meal off with an ice cream sundae that was out of this world. It had burnt caramel ice cream with nuts and popcorn! too too much.

Also, happy birthday to my lovely best friend Dalia who’s over on the west coast!

xx, M

Happy Birthday, Mr. Vanderberg!

There’s lots of exciting things going on over here.   Yesterday we celebrated Mr. Vanderbergs birthday! We had a lovely dinner at Buttermilk Channel.

He was a little sad because only 3 people remembered his birthday (but that’s what you get for not listing the date on Facebook) but was much happier when these arrived.

(on a side note, I love camera apps because I can’t take a picture to save my life,

and they always make things look so good!)

We had hush puppies and spare ribs and fried chicken with waffles and duck meatload and the piece de la resistance?  Coconut pot de creme with pistachio cookies. To be honest, our meals weren’t that great! It was a little disappointing in that regard (and in fact we were both a little sick later in the night) because its the most talked about new restaurant around.   I know you guys have been there – what was your experience? Maybe another trip back there is in order?

I got him these flowers:

and this book and a flip camera.  A lovely day indeed.  Happy Birthday Mr. Vanderberg, you deserve all the good things coming your way!

Brooklyn weekend fun

J,

I’d love to see some pics of that wedding in Arkansas. What did you end up wearing?

This past weekend my brother was visiting us from Miami. It was so great spending time with him. On Saturday the husband walked us around Prospect Park. The company he works for is planning a food, wine and beer festival there next year so he’s become pretty familiar with the layout, it kinda felt like an official tour.

(Full disclosure: this entire post was taken with my cross process app…I just can’t help myself)

We wandered around parts of the park that made you feel like you were worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the city

(can you believe this exists in Brooklyn?)

The Boathouse continues to be my favorite spot in the park. Look at these cool bird mobiles they have displayed…

Then we made our way to the Red Hook ball parks for some soccer, pupusas and arepas…

Stay dry, M

My Weekend in Arkansas

We got back late last night from northwest Arkansas after celebrating the marriage of our two friends.  It was a little chilly but beautiful and there were many great moments.  However, this was the highlight of my weekend….

Jealous? ;) – J
